| This visit will take you for encounter with
Saint Peter in the basilica where his remains have been
conserved for almost two thousand years. St Peter’s
Basilica, seat of the Pontiffs, it is a place where Faith,
History and Art fuse together in a unique synthesis of
majesty and beauty. Two thousand years of history will
pass before your eyes, beginning with the first niche
constructed on St. Peter’s burial site. Continue
through the Basilica erected by Constantine then to the
present day structure you can admire today, the fruit
of the prophetic vision of the popes of the Renaissance
and of the 1600s. Explore the naves, chapels and the works
of art contained within, where the genius and imagination
of great artists like Michelangelo, Bernini, and Raffaello,
just to name a few, expressed some of the greatest of
human achievements. Within each monument, view the living
history of the popes, saints and queens, who gave their
lives for the Church in the era in which they lived. Descend
into the Sacred Vatican Grottos and see up close the Confession
of St. Peter and the tombs of many popes, loved and venerated
by the Christian people, including Paul VI and John Paul
II. |
