The route continues toward Quirinale Hill, the highest of the seven historic hills of Rome always appreciated for its position and wholesomeness since the ancient Romans, and since 1500 by the popes and important Roman families that left grandiose palaces there ornamented by gardens and beautiful churches. From Barberini Square, you will ascend past the Four Fountains, passing in from of Barberini Palace, named for the family that gave the church such famous popes as Urban VIII. Once you arrive at the top, at the characteristic intersection crowned by four fountains, you will find the Church of Saint Carlino, the first masterpiece by Borromini in Rome. Walking alongside the great Quirinale palace, you will see the Church of Saint Andrew, a work by Bernini. In the beautiful Quirinale Square, you can admire the façade of the palace, requested by the popes in the 1600s as a summer residence. The Palace, after 1870, housed the royalty of Italy and since 1946 it is the seat of the President of the Republic. At its center is the beautiful Fountain of the Dioscuri. We will then descend toward the Trevi Fountain to admire the spectacular display of the Virgin Water requested by Pope Clement XII in 1732. You will then head back up toward the hill, passing in front of Colonna Palace, the entrance to the Traianei Markets and to the Milizie Towers in order to reach the end of our visit on National Road.
