This tour offers the possibility of a journey through two thousand years of history through the churches and roads of one of the Seven Hills of Rome, the Celio. Descending into the bowels of the Basilica of Saint Clement and ascending onto the rise dominated by the fortress-monastery of the Crowned Holy Four we encounter ancient houses and pagan temples, medieval basilicas and chapels with valuable frescoes. Traveling along the ridge of the hill we will be moving through what was, in the late-ancient era, a district of rich patristic villas, homes of saints and senators. After having touched the Basilica of Saint Mary in Domnica, with its splendid mosaic, an ancient street will conduct us to the Basilica of Saints John and Paul, erected in the 5th century on the place of the martyrdom and burial of these two saints, whose house is still visible in the underground beneath the church. Finally, the fuge of arches that cross the Slope of Scauro will lead us to the Church of Saint Gregory and to three nearby oratories, in a place rich with history and spirituality.
