| Our tour brings us to meet the Aventino, the southernmost of the Seven Hills of Rome, to show us the most interesting elements and the most striking places on this hill, which has always maintained a certain distance from the rest of the city. First the hill of the plebe, then of the great patristic villas, and finally the seat of churches and convents with their gardens, still today, despite modern developments, the Aventino appears as an oasis of relative peace in the frenetic life of the capital. Our itinerary begins with the fields to the North that face the Circus Maximus and the Palatino, immersing us immediately in a splendid rose bush that recalls that loving care of the gardeners of the various convents on the Hill. We will then see the Church of Saint Prisca, the oldest place of Christian worship on the hill, created in the house of Prisca and her husband Aquila, collaborators with Saint Paul in Asia Minor. Then you continue to the convent of Saint Anselm, today the seat and home of the head Abbott of the Benedictine Order, where in the heart of the big city on lives in obedience to “Ora et Labora.” We will arrive at Knights of Malta Square over which looks the building which is the seat of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, heir to the great knightly and hospital orders of the Middle Ages. We will then visit the Church of Saints Boniface and Alexis, from the 3rd or 4th century, dedicated to Saint Boniface, the Roman patrician martyred in Tarsus of Cilicia and then Saint Alexis, an exemplary Christian who distinguished himself by preserving his faith and humility. Not far away stands the Basilica of Saint Sabina, dedicated perhaps to a rich Roman matron of the 4th century. The basilica is full of historical-religious articles. Here lived and worked Saint Dominic of Guznam. Still today the cell of this saint is preserved here, transformed into a chapel. Our tour will end near the Orange Garden that offers us a beautiful panorama overlooking the Tiber and Rome.
